Dedicated centres are now opening...

Finally, some dedicated research centres are opening!

The Samantha Dickinson Brain Tumour Trust has supported the opening of research centres at Newcastle and University College London. Nottingham University also runs a dedicated brain tumour centre. The charities this fund supports are intimately involved in getting these centres up and running to provide invaluable research.

Research has shown...

  • Brain tumours are the second fastest growing cause of cancer death in people over 65.
  • Brain tumours are one of the leading causes of death in 20-39 year olds.
  • There are 4,500 new cases of brain tumours each year of which 450 are children.
  • The cure rate for brain tumours is lower than most other cancers.
  • The survival rate for brain tumour sufferers is not much better than 40 years ago.
  • Treatment regimes have not improved or changed significantly in the last few decades.
  • There are 120 types of brain tumour and they are on the increase.
